In a sunlit Brooklyn studio, Yan Chen runs her fingers over Italian vegetable-tanned leather—just arrived from a Florence workshop. "Every hide has its own character," she tells apprentices, "like every person's story."

Founded in 2017, Yan Yi Import and Export Co., LLC began with three canvas bags sewn on Chen's grandmother's vintage frame. Today, it sources materials globally—Argentine horsehide, Japanese canvas, Indian silk threads—blending craftsmanship from across borders.

What makes Yan Yi unique? It's the stories stitched into each piece: a bride's silhouette etched on a anniversary gift, a child's drawing lining a tote, a soldier's shell-casing clasp honoring fallen comrades.

" We don't sell bags. We preserve moments," Chen says. Each tag bears their creed: "Every stitch, every thread, every intention."

Twelve years on, Yan Yi sends these handcrafted treasures worldwide, carrying artisanal warmth to Tokyo, Sydney, Cape Town—proof that some things are too precious to rush.
